  • RELEVANT, CURRENT CASES ILLUSTRATE KEY PRINCIPLES OF BUSINESS LAW. Carefully selected, interesting cases demonstrate how professionals apply business laws in the United States. Approximately half of the chapters in this edition now offer one or more new cases.
  • UPDATED COVERAGE ADDRESSES THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS. Students examine the new Restatement (Third) of Torts: Liability for Economic Harm; the 2016 RMBCA; the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s new Regulation A+, Regulation Crowdfunding, and intrastate exemptions as well as the 2017 amendments to Rules 147 and 504; the new Defend Trades Secrets Act of 2016 and the 2016 amendments to the Economic Espionage Act; and the 2016 amendments to the Toxic Substances Control Act.
  • NEW QUESTIONS AND CASE PROBLEMS PROVIDE ADDITIONAL PRACTICE. Most chapters in this edition include additional, new end-of-chapter questions and/or case problems.
  • INSIGHTFUL ILLUSTRATIONS CLARIFY CONCEPTS More than 220 classroom-tested figures, diagrams, charts, tables, and chapter summaries help students conceptualize the many abstract concepts in the law. Concept Reviews not only summarize prior discussions but also help illustrate relationships among legal rules. Each chapter ends with an annotated outline of the entire chapter that summarizes concepts, including key terms.
  • "APPLYING THE LAW" FEATURE HELPS STUDENTS EFFECTIVELY APPLY LEGAL REASONING TO CASES AND LEGAL ISSUES. Students learn to use the Issue, Rule, Application and Conclusion (IRAC) method. They sharpen their skills as each feature depicts a realistic situation that focuses on a single chapter’s concept. This practical "Applying the Law" feature appears in 14 chapters.
  • ETHICS COVERAGE HIGHLIGHTS HOW ETHICS APPLIES TO BUSINESS. A series of Business Ethics case studies require students to make value trade-offs common in professional business. "Ethical Dilemma" features in most chapters present a managerial situation involving ethical issues. Questions explore the ethical dimensions of each situation. Ethics questions also follow many cases and encourage students to consider the ethical dimensions of the case or legal issues invoked by the facts.
  • CRITICAL-THINKING ACTIVITIES STRENGTHEN STUDENTS' ANALYTICAL SKILLS. Critical-Thinking Questions follow every case to guide students in examining legal policies or reasoning surrounding a court’s decision. End-of-chapter Questions, Case Problems, and "Taking Sides" challenge students to apply chapter concepts to realistic hypothetical and case-based situations. Corresponding answers in the Instructor Manual make it easier to clarify supporting concepts.
  • PRACTICAL ADVICE EMPHASIZE THE RELEVANCE AND IMPORTANCE OF CONCEPTS. Each chapter contains practical advice statements that illustrate how to apply legal concepts to common business situations.
  • "BUSINESS LAW IN ACTION" ILLUSTRATES HOW TO APPLY LEGAL CONCEPTS TO COMMON BUSINESS SITUATIONS. Numerous chapters feature "Business Law in Action" scenarios with meaningful insights into how managers currently apply the law in typical workplace situations.
