Debra Nelson

Dr. Debra L. Nelson is an emeritus professor of management at Oklahoma State University. In addition, she was awarded the Spears School of Business endowed chair. She received her doctorate from the University of Texas at Arlington, where she was the recipient of the R. D. Irwin Dissertation Fellowship Award. Dr. Nelson is the author of over 120 journal articles focusing on organizational stress management, gender at work and leadership. Her research has been published in the ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVE, ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT JOURNAL, ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT REVIEW, MIS QUARTERLY, ORGANIZATIONAL DYNAMICS, JOURNAL OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR, and others. In addition, she is coauthor/coeditor of several books, including ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR: SCIENCE, THE REAL WORLD, AND YOU; POSITIVE ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR; ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP; GENDER, WORK STRESS, AND HEALTH; ADVANCING WOMEN IN MANAGEMENT; and PREVENTIVE STRESS MANAGEMENT IN ORGANIZATIONS. Dr. Nelson has also served as a consultant and executive coach to several organizations including AT&T, American Fidelity Assurance, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Chesapeake Energy, Conoco/Phillips, Mariner Wealth Advisors, NOV, Inc., Sonic, and Williams Companies. She has been honored with the Greiner Graduate Teaching Award, the Chandler-Frates and Reitz Graduate Teaching Award, the Regents' Distinguished Teaching Award, the Regents' Distinguished Research Award, and the Burlington Northern Faculty Achievement Award at OSU. Dr. Nelson has served on the editorial review boards of the JOURNAL OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR, JOURNAL OF LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL STUDIES, and LEADERSHIP.

Janaki Gooty

Dr. Janaki Gooty is a professor in the management department at the Belk College of Business and Organizational Science, an interdisciplinary doctoral program at UNC Charlotte. She serves as director of the MBA program (BCOB) and of the dual MBA program with EGADE Business School in Monterrey, Mexico. Her research focuses on inclusion, values/ethics, and the role of emotions in leadership at multiple levels of analyses. Her research has appeared in elite leadership and research methods outlets such as ORGANIZATIONAL RESEARCH METHODS, JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT and LEADERSHIP QUARTERLY. Dr. Gooty is the senior associate editor at LEADERSHIP QUARTERLY and has previously served as an associate editor at JOURNAL OF OCCUPATIONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY. She also was a guest co-editor of two special issues at LEADERSHIP QUARTERLY and served on the editorial boards of other journals. She has served as past president, president, president-elect, program chair, program chair elect and representative to the Board of Governors of the Southern Management Association (SMA), which is the largest affiliate of the Academy of Management (AoM) and the governing body for the elite JOURNAL OF MANAGMENT (JOM) and newly launched JOM SCIENTIFIC REPORTS. In addition, she served as representative at large (2016-2019) for the Research Methods Division (RMD) of the Academy of Management. She is an elected Fellow of SMA and a short course instructor with Consortium for Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA). She won the Leadership Quarterly Best Paper Award in 2021, the Dean’s award for DEI in 2021 and the Charlotte Business Journal Women in Business Award in 2023. Dr. Gooty has presented her work and conducted leadership trainings in multiple venues locally, nationally and internationally with a special focus on leadership of underrepresented groups in corporate and executive leadership settings.

James Campbell Quick

Dr. James Campbell (Jim C) Quick is Distinguished University Professor and emeritus professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. He has held the Goolsby–Fouse Endowed Chair in the Goolsby Leadership Academy, College of Business at UT Arlington, and was Professor of Leadership and Organizational Behavior in the Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester. He is an honors graduate of Colgate University and earned an MBA and a doctorate at the University of Houston. He completed postgraduate courses in behavioral medicine (Harvard Medical School) and combat stress (University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio). Dr. Quick is a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the American Psychological Association, and his (and his brother's) signature theory is preventive stress management. He published over 130 books, chapters, journal articles and clinical monographs in 10 languages. His recognitions include 2016 Professor of the Year, Beta Gamma Sigma; The Maroon Citation (Colgate University); 2002 Harry and Miriam Levinson Award (American Psychological Foundation); and 2016 Regents Outstanding Teacher Award, The University of Texas System. Quick won the 2007-2008 Honors College Outstanding Faculty Award and was elected to the Academy of Distinguished Scholars at UT Arlington. He was honored with the 2018 Dean’s Service Award by the College of Business, and the 2019 John and Judy Goolsby Award, Distinguished Academy Faculty Member, from Goolsby Leadership Academy. Colonel Quick, United States Air Force Reserve (Ret.) was Distinguished Visiting Professor of Psychology, 59th Medical Wing (1999) and Visiting Scholar, United States Military Academy at West Point (2007). His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star Device.
