Joan Ferrante

Joan Ferrante is Professor of Sociology at Northern Kentucky University and author of Sociology: A Global Perspective, 9th Edition and co-editor of The Social Construction of Race and Ethnicity in the United States. She received her PhD from the University of Cincinnati.

Mariam Seedat-Khan

Mariam Seedat-Khan is a certified clinical sociologist with the Department of Sociology, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. She obtained her PhD in Sociology in 2006 from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She completed her undergraduate degree with York University in Toronto, Canada. She is currently an executive member of ISA RC 46 Clinical Sociology executive committee. Dr Seedat-Khan has published several book chapters and articles in academic journals. She has also presented papers at both local and international academic conferences.

Zanetta Jansen

Zanetta Jansen completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Natal University. She works full-time at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in the Sociology Department specialising in open distance and online education for over 20 years. She completed her PhD in Sociology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and is published in fields of political journalism, media organisations, research ethics and online education. Dr Jansen is a board member of international journals and edits the journal South African Review of Sociology.

René Smith

René Alicia Smith has a MA cum laude and a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies from University of KwaZulu-Natal, and completed her BA Hons at Falmouth College of Arts (now Falmouth University) in the United Kingdom. She is President of the South African Humanities Deans’ Association and Chairperson of a national Digital Humanities project. She is founding Festival Director for Digifest at Durban University of Technology, where she also serves as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design. She has worked across sectors; taught at a selection of institutions of higher education in South Africa and has served on a range of governing boards, including the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences. She worked as an independent consultant for several years on a variety of media, gender justice and development projects, including in some SADC countries.
