Overview

THE POCKET GUIDE TO KEY TERMS FOR BEAUTY THERAPY

Lorraine Nordmann

Lorraine Nordmann has worked in beauty therapy education for over 40 years as a practitioner, educator and assessor, in quality assurance roles at various colleges for an awarding organisation, Curriculum Leader and Head of Department. She has been involved in developing several awarding organisations’ curricula up to Foundation degree level, creating rigorous assessment materials aligned to the curriculum level of study, related National Occupational Standards (NOS) and current industry commercial protocols, following the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion. In more recent years Lorraine has brought her experience of the education sector and resource development, including remote learning digital resources, to her work with HABIA (the Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Skills Sector Body) as an assessor for its activities. These are aimed at training providers and those delivering continuing professional development courses. Lorraine is President of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) providing professional updates for education members in collaboration with industry, through webinars and in-person activities. Student competitions are an important part of her work and Lorraine has had the opportunity to develop these, ensuring they comply with industry best practice and challenge learners to reach their potential.

Marian Newman

Marian Newman has worked in every aspect of the nail industry since opening a ‘nails only’ salon in 1988, then moving into training and subsequently building a formidable reputation prompting Tatler magazine to comment “Marian Newman is to nails what Karl Lagerfeld is to frocks.” She is a frequent contributor to the media and was the Chairperson of the Nail Services Forum and Committee Member for Habia (Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority) for many years. Marian works with many leading designers at the key fashion shows including London and Paris and has worked for Loewe, Vivienne Westwood, Emanuel Ungaro, Sonia Rykiel, Alexander McQueen, Giles and Mary Katrantzou. Such is her unrivalled position in the industry, Marian is one of the few top nail practitioners whose work is seen in glossy magazines around the world virtually every week. She has over 50 British Vogue covers to her name, 10 years of Christian Dior’s advertising campaigns and has also designed a range of nail products for MAC Cosmetics.
